Don’t Tip the Scales This Thanksgiving

Local Fitness Expert Offers Ten Tips to Avoid Getting Heavy Over the Holidays

(Orlando, FL)- When the leftovers are wrapped and the dishes are done, the Thanksgiving meal you just ate can leave you feeling more stuffed than the turkey. The average Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings can have as many calories as the average person eats in a day.

Turkey with dressing, mashed potatoes, dinner rolls, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie, and holiday cookies; the list of feel-good holiday delights is as expansive as the growing waistline of our city's residents, but you can avoid tipping the scales this Thanksgiving by following five simple steps.

1) Have a game plan in mind and make a conscious decision to not over-eat. Drinking plenty of water before the meal will help you feel full.

2) Focus on the protein and veggies. Protein-rich sources like turkey and ham will help you feel full, which goes a long way in preventing your calorie intake from reaching the stratosphere. As for the veggies…Grandma will be telling you to eat those, so listen up!

3) Wait a good 15 or 20 minutes before going for that second helping. By waiting a few minutes, your hormones have time to pull back the reins on your appetite. You may already be full, you just don’t know it!

4) After the meal go for a walk or play football in the yard. The sunlight will help boost your immune system, while the activity will put some distance between you and another dessert helping.

5) When you’re checking out all of those black Friday deals be sure to fuel yourself properly; don’t let the thanksgiving feast continue for days on end!
